"Peter's wedding dance lessons were the best part of the wedding planning"

"Stephanie was amazing!... We were able to use the moves she taught us on the dance floor beyond just "our song." We continued to dance through out our honeymoon, reveling in how much fun it was and how nice it turned out!"

Frequently Asked Wedding Dance Lessons Questions: FAQ

Private Wedding Dance lessons Near Me

How do we learn a wedding dance if we're not dancers?

Learning how to dance together is not hard! Almost all of my couples come to me with no experience and in only a few lessons, and they walk away with a life skill and a Wedding First dance - you will blow your guests minds!

Does it take many wedding dance lessons to do a wedding dance?

For many couples, the first real feelings of comfort and confidence dancing together comes somewhere around 5 lessons. Ten lessons is a reasonable goal if you want to nail full 3 minutes of choreography. All couples have different goals and learning curves — some couples want a simple and romantic dance, others want a show-stopper. We’ll discuss what’s right for you in the first lesson and give you a recommendation.

How much do wedding/First dance lessons cost in NYC?

Our first lesson is $89, which gives you a full 45-minute session to see how we work together before committing to anything. From there, packages range from $340 for 3 lessons up to $990 for a full 10-lesson custom routine. Every package is priced per couple, not per person. See our full rates on the Rates page

What's an easy dance style for a wedding first dance?

The music determines the best style of dance, often a Rumba is the best for a majority! Rumba has a simple step pattern, makes it great for beginners and its slow sensual movements make it easier to master. Rumba music often has a slower tempo.

Can you help if we are nervous or awkward dancers?

Absolutely! I've been teaching beginner dancers simple choreography for their Wedding dances for more than 25 years

When should we start wedding dance lessons?

Ideally 3 to 4 months before your wedding. That gives you comfortable, flexible scheduling and enough time to actually feel good on the dance floor — not just know the steps. If you’re starting with 6 months to go, even better. If you’re closer to the date, don’t panic — we’ve worked with couples on tighter timelines and it’s very doable.

What if we have two left feet?

That’s genuinely our specialty. The vast majority of couples who come to us have never taken a dance lesson in their lives. What we’ve learned over 25 years is that “two left feet” isn’t a permanent condition — it’s just where you start. By lesson three, most couples are already surprising themselves.

What happens in the first lesson?

The first lesson is a full 45-minute session — not a sales pitch. We get to know each other, try some movement together, and figure out what you’re working with: your song, your timeline, your comfort level, and what kind of dance you’re imagining. You leave with a real sense of what the process looks like and what we’d recommend. No pressure to commit beyond that.

Will my wedding dress affect our dance?

Yes, and it’s worth thinking about early. Ideally your dress sits about a quarter to half an inch off the floor all the way around so you’re not stepping on it when you move backward. If the bodice is fitted or strapless, some arm movements may need to be modified — but that’s something we account for in the choreography. Bring details about your dress to an early lesson so we can build the routine around it.

Are lessons private?

Yes — every lesson is a private lesson, meaning you have your instructor’s full, undivided attention for the entire session. You’re not in a group class.
