Built Around
Your Moment.
You don't need to be dancers. You just need one song — and someone who knows how to make you look and feel extraordinary on your wedding day.
More Than a Dance.
A Memory.
Your first dance as a married couple will be photographed, filmed, and replayed for the rest of your lives. It'll be the moment all eyes in the room are on the two of you.
It doesn't need to be a performance. But it should feel yours — effortless, joyful, and completely in the moment. When the music starts, you should be smiling, not counting.
That's what first dance lessons in NYC are really about: not steps and technique, but connection and confidence.
How Your First Dance Lessons Work
Every couple starts exactly where they are. No judgment, no rush — just a clear, personal path from where you are now to where you want to be on your wedding day.
```The Introductory Lesson
We start by getting to know each other. I'll learn about your song, your vision, and your starting point. Together we'll explore a few foundational movements and map out exactly how we'll use our time to make your first dance unforgettable.
Building Your Dance (Lessons 2–6)
Most couples begin to feel genuine comfort and confidence around lessons 5–6, where a simple, beautiful first dance takes real shape. Every lesson is tailored to your pace, your song, and your expectations.
Polishing to Perfection (Lessons 7–12)
Couples who want full choreography for a 2.5–3 minute song typically arrive there in 8–12 lessons. Every detail — timing, transitions, the moment the music swells — is worked out and owned before your wedding day.
"Lessons are never about drilling steps. They're about building the dancer already inside you — and making sure you walk onto that floor feeling completely ready."— Peter Jones
When Should You Start?
One of the most common questions I get — and the honest answer is: the earlier the better. But it's almost never too late.
Ideal. Relaxed pace, full choreography, time to genuinely enjoy the process.
The most common window. Focused and efficient — still plenty of time.
Absolutely doable. A streamlined plan with clear, achievable goals.
I've done it. Don't stress — just call me and we'll figure out what's possible.
The most important thing isn't when you start. It's that you don't wait until it's too late to enjoy it.
They Walked In Nervous.
They Danced.
Your Questions, Answered
Everything couples typically want to know before booking their first lesson.
```Most couples feel genuinely comfortable with a simple, beautiful first dance after 5–6 private lessons. For full choreography of a 2.5–3 minute song, 8–12 lessons is a reliable target. I tailor every plan to your timeline and goals — there's no one-size-fits-all answer.
None at all. The majority of my couples have never taken a dance lesson in their lives. I start exactly where you are and build from there — that's the whole point.
It depends entirely on your song. Waltz and foxtrot are classic choices for traditional songs; rumba and cha-cha work beautifully for Latin-flavored music. We'll choose the right style together in your first lesson based on your music and how you want to feel on the floor.
It happens more than you'd think — and it's almost always fine. Call or text me directly at 917-375-3027 and I'll tell you exactly what we can accomplish in the time you have.
Absolutely. All couples are welcome and all choreography is tailored entirely to you — your song, your story, your style.

Peter Jones
For over 20 years, I've worked exclusively with couples preparing for their first dance — in the same Midtown Manhattan studio, with the same singular focus. This is the only thing I do.
I've been featured in New York Magazine's Wedding Issues since 2005, appeared on Fox 5's Good Day New York, and worked alongside Dancing with the Stars' Louis van Amstel on ABC's The Rachael Ray Show. My students have included Tony Award winner Patina Miller, Kenneth Cole, and NBA's Marshall Plumlee.
But my greatest achievement is the couple who told me: "This was the best part of planning our entire wedding." That's what I'm here to give you.
